About The Area
Originally a Roman settlement and port of great importance, the town of Wareham is situated between the rivers Piddle and Frome, which is still navigable today. Moving on a few hundred years, the Saxons laid the foundations for the town as it is now which is plainly evident if one takes time to explore. The history of Wareham is portrayed through its charm and character with much of the town lying within the Saxon walls.
Highlights of Wareham include a good range of shopping, a variety of pubs and restaurants such as the renowned ‘Priory Hotel’, entertainment facilities including a cinema and a market that runs twice weekly.
Wareham is also known as the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck with its quaint villages including Corfe Castle and its historic ruins, stunning scenery and sandy beaches.
